Local venues around the state will play host to a very festive fundraising event this year, it might just be in your backyard.

Brisbane Youth Service (BYS) is set to launch its annual multi-venue fundraising party to raise awareness about youth homelessness.

The event calls on community members to organise friends, family and colleagues to host an event, ‘party with a purpose’ and raise funds for youth homelessness.

BYS fundraising manager Richard Langford says the event was designed to address serious local issues with a community-focused approach.

“In the greater Brisbane region approximately 3500-4000 young people become homeless each year. Raise your Roof is a way to create awareness about this issue,” Mr Langford says.

Local musician and Raise your Roof volunteer David Donn says that while the community may be aware of youth homelessness, they don’t have time to tackle the issue.

“While people would like to donate and offer their time, their lives are so busy that it’s hard to get people involved – that’s why this event will be so successful,” he says.

All Raise your Roof parties will fall on the eve of the Ekka people’s public holiday, Tuesday 13 August, 2013.
